Tawny owls have some fascinating design features that allow them to fly relatively silently and with great maneuverability. Both adaptations are key to their ability to approach and capture prey items. Following on from a recent talk that I gave on tawny owls (which included some basic aerodynamics), one of the attendees with a special interest in the aeorodynamics of both aircraft and birds, kindly sent me this fascinating article that he wrote.
